Picture this: you've died. The room is cursed, and the mob is aggie so even if you could mercy, you'd only get killed again while in spell lag. And no one is available to help. Now you have a choice: you can (1) kiss your hard won gear good-bye or (2) speedwalk your CR.

It's true you may die again, even repeatedly. And if you died in an area requiring keys or quest tickets which you can only obtain from killing mobs, you may still need outside help. (Though here's a trick: if you know you are going to die in an area with locked doors, donate the keys just before you die. Then you can go to the donation room and retrieve them.) But in most cases, you have options even if you can't find help.

The idea is to stack commands to get to your corpse and get out fast before the mobs have time to act. Get to a safe (or relatively safe) room as close to your corpse as possible — ideally, one or a few rooms away. Recall set there if possible since you may not succeed at first. Then, if you know your corpse is, say, w s w from the room you're in, create an alias for the following in one command, which you might call cr:

1. the directions to the corpse, which in this case are w:s:w
2. getting everything from your corpse: get all [yourname]
3. a quick retreat, whether it be by getting to Sanctum, or if the room's cursed, either backtracking (e:n:e) or teleporting out

If there are locked doors involved and you have the keys, change the first part to something like: w:s:unl w:o w:w. So basically, you should have something like:

  alias cr w:s:unl w:o w:w:get all [yourname]:e:n:e

You can (but don't always have to) prepare a bit to make things easier: sneak, move hidden, and cast invis, magic light, giant strength, fly, etc. If you don't have but need specific affects (e.g. maxed strength or a light to see your corpse), you can go to the bank and withdraw gold to buy lanterns and potions and such. Or you can ask someone in Sanctum; many players will agree if you explain what you're doing.

When you're ready, type cr and watch the wonder of stacked commands do all the work. If you die again, just repeat, tho you'll want to change the middle part to get all #.[yourname] where # is the number of your own corpses you've collected in that room.

Finally, don't forget to fix your recall after!
